As a wedding photographer, it’s essential that the wedding day goes as smoothly and peacefully as possible. I’ve photographed dozens of weddings, and one truth stays consistent: a relaxed morning often leads to a joyful, smooth day. In this blog, I’ll share six unique insights as someone who has seen this part of the day up close dozens of times and wants to make sure that your wedding day goes perfectly!
1. Start With a Thoughtful Timeline
The first thing I always mention to my clients is how important it is to have a solid schedule. Without one, the morning and day can feel chaotic, and no bride or groom wants that. I always recommend including buffer time, especially since hair and makeup can often run longer than expected.
Before the day even begins, both the wedding planner, hair and makeup teams, and the photographer should be fully aligned with the schedule to help everything run smoothly.
2. Prep Your Details the Night Before
To keep the wedding morning stress-free, it’s essential to prep your details the night before. Set aside your dress, shoes, rings, flat lay items, vow books, stationery, perfume, and anything else you want captured. You can organize everything into designated boxes or spaces in your dressing room so you know exactly where it is when the day begins.
Doing this helps your wedding photographer and keeps the morning from feeling chaotic.
3. Create a Peaceful Getting Ready Space
The best way to start your wedding day is to create a peaceful getting ready space. If possible, choose a room with natural light and minimal clutter. Couples often forget to eat in the morning, so we always recommend keeping light snacks and water nearby. And don’t forget a get-ready playlist filled with your favorite music to set the tone!
If you’re someone who gets overwhelmed easily, it can also help to limit how many people are in the room. This is your day, and your space should feel comfortable.
4. Build in Intentional Moments
Before the ceremony or first look, plan for a quiet moment to ground yourself. Whether it’s exchanging letters, saying a prayer, meditating, or simply taking five minutes alone, this small pause can make a big difference in calming your nerves.
Wedding days can be emotional and overwhelming, so carving out time to reset helps you feel your best. First looks with your partner, a parent, or your bridal party can be emotional, and they often turn into some of the most meaningful photos of the day.
5. Dress Early — Then Breathe
Aim to be fully dressed at least 30 minutes before you need to leave. This gives you a chance to pause, soak it all in, and truly be present before everything begins. It also creates a buffer for portraits, last-minute touch-ups, or handling any surprises without feeling rushed.
6. Trust Your Team
You chose your team for a reason! Your planner, hair/makeup artist, and wedding photographer are there to support you and help the day go smoothly. Try not to stress over the small stuff and stay focused on the moment. The day will fly by, and you deserve to soak in every second of it.
Stress-Free Wedding Morning
Calm wedding mornings don’t just happen; they’re created with preparation, thoughtful timing, and the right mindset. You don’t need to do it all, just be present and soak it all in.
